For literature fans, horror tends to be a take it or leave it kind of genre. There are some people who would not be seen dead with a copy of Carrie under their arm, and there are others who have stacks of books by authors like Anne Rice, Richard Matheson, Dean Koontz, and John Connolly sat in their offices, bedrooms, and living rooms.
The thing about horror, whether it be film or literature, is that it is far more subjective than other genres of fiction. Whilst the things that make us happy are generally universal, fear is a very personal emotion, and it can take a million different forms.
This a guide to three of the greatest modern horror authors still writing books today.
The author of I Am Legend is widely regarded as one of the most talented horror writers in modern history. For Richard Matheson, fear is something which happens on epic scale, but it makes its impact felt in the tiniest of things, in the things that are usually taken for granted. As anybody who has ever read the book, or indeed seen the film adaptation, will know, Dr Robert Neville finds the strength to survive in a post-apocalyptic world, because of his relationship with his pet dog Sam.
For most horror writers, the really juicy stuff comes with a generous helping of science fiction, myth, legend, or old school horror pastiche. Whilst it certainly isn’t unusual to encounter authors who prefer to keep their scares rooted in the real world, most of the stories within this genre incorporate some element of fantasy. Yet, Ketchum is one of the former – his horror is carefully built upon real world scenarios, believable characters, and completely plausible nightmare situations. In fact, it is precisely what makes his books so terrifying to read, even wrapped up in blankets in a cold house. For a chilling experience, check out The Girl Next Door or Look Into The Woman.
You really cannot discuss modern horror novels without mentioning the one name which has towered above the genre for decades. There are plenty of people who dislike Stephen King because he writes horror, but still manages to be insanely popular. The truth of the matter is that he genuinely is as good as they say, certainly in his earlier career defining works. The list is a long one, and contains classics like Carrie, Salem’s Lot, Pet Cemetary, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Misery, The Shining, Christine, It, The Stand, and more.
If you’ve ever asked me who my favorite writer was, chances are I’d tell you it was Stephen King.
He’s written so many modern classics that it can be hard to keep track. I read almost everything by Stephen King that I can possibly get my hands on because he never fails to write something that I find absolutely riveting.
Even his more obscure books are full of memorable characters. As for his more popular books, I’ve read Misery and It dozens of times each and they’re still fantastic each time.
So when I heard that he’d written a new book, I had to take a look. I just finished reading Revival, and I figured it was time that I actually reviewed one of Stephen King’s books.
The Revival Stephen King book is everything you want out of a Stephen King book. Stephen King has always had a good eye for historical detail. If you’re fascinated by the 1960s like I am, Stephen King can make you feel like you’re there.
He can simultaneously make you feel like you want to be there and you don’t want to be there, since his books are as scary as they are emotionally resonant. Revival is a good title for this book in a meta-fictional sense, since it almost feels like an older, classic Stephen King book that was recently discovered but was actually written years ago.
I love his newer stuff, but his older stuff is what got me into Stephen King books in the first place, so it was great to read something that felt like a revival, so to speak.
Stephen King has always been great at exploring the dynamics of small towns, and the way they can simultaneously feel inviting and confining.
He’s also always been great at exploring the psychological consequences of addiction and the things that can lead people to experience addiction. Stephen King suffered from various addictions himself, and he’s been able to add a lot of drama to his own books by introducing that element.
The corruption of childhood innocence is a big, over-arching theme that you’ll see in a lot of Stephen King’s books, which is definitely true for Revival. In this story of the complicated, shifting, and horrifying relationship between a reverend and the young man he mentored years ago, Stephen King was able to give fans like me everything we’ve come to expect from him.
You don’t see too many other writers that are capable of doing that after so many years, but Stephen King has always risen to the challenge.
There has been a lot of talk of late, about animal cruelty in the cosmetic industry, the drug industry, the medical industry, the fashion industry…shall I go on? Yes, even that new goose down comforter you just bought. There is good reason it is such a popular topic.
A great number of animals are not only sacrificed, but often tortured. Treated brutally, kept in unsanitary, conditions, uncomfortable pens and shackles , unable to lie down or even move more than a few inches. These animals are then used for experimentation. Testing of everything from pesticides, poisons. New and experimental substances that have unknown properties are force fed to them or injected into them.
These animals are expendable. Treated as if they have no life, no value other than to torment and destroy.
We all like nice things. But do you realize that goose down comforter you just paid three hundred dollars for, can now be made just as nice, just as warn, much lighter, and even more convenient in every way for less money, and not one single goose has to be sacrificed, or housed in the way most animals kept for these purposes, find themselves.
That goose down comforter most likely cost between twenty and seventy geese, and possibly even more, their lives to make, depending upon the size of the comforter. These geese are kept in pens or cages crowded together in very close quarters. They are killed, often for their feathers alone. Some of these animals never even see the light of day. Ever.
See this video on the truth about goose down.
Now you may say that that is what they are bred for. It’s the natural way of things. We have to control their numbers. The answer is; Yes. But is humane treatment too much to ask for. When we hear of humans being tortured or kept in inhumane conditions we are appalled. Do animals feel pain less because they are animals.
Now, I’m not suggesting that you become a vegetarian or to give up eating meat or fowl. Although it is supposed to be a much healthier lifestyle. I am advocating decent ethical treatment. Not punishment or abuse for crimes never committed.
Animals have value too. I suppose I believe in the natural ways. If the animal must be sacrificed, let it be done quickly. As painlessly as possible. And treated with respect for it’s sacrifice. And none of it wasted. Don’t destroy a life or several, just to upholster your favorite chair with leather. And, do you really need that pair of leather hip boots and bullwhip when all of these thing can be made with man made materials that will look just as good, and cost less than those made by mistreating and sacrificing animals.
The saddest part isn’t even the animals that are needlessly sacrificed, as bad as that is. It is the exorbitant rate of death to many of the animals simply from the way they are housed and treated. Many develop diseases that spread throughout the flock or herd.
So when you shop for something like that goose down comforter, stop and think. The best goose down comforter is one that doesn’t kill a single goose.
Balls of Fury, a comedy that came out in 2007, is about a sport called ping pong where the main character, Randy Daytona, a former ping pong player, becomes involved in a mission to find his father’s killer by playing ping pong with some of the most notorious ping pong players in the world. Let me just say the only redeeming quality of this movie is it’s kind of fun watching these guys swing around some of the best ping pong paddles, and make some incredible shots even though you know it’s only a movie.
I found Ball of Fury to be a terrible movie because it’s been done before in other movies, just in a different context. There’s nothing funny about avenging a father’s death. I don’t see how ping pong is significant to such an important mission. Also, this is just another movie where grown men are acting like idiotic boys. Plus ping pong is more of a boys’ sport, not a man’s game.
There’s nothing meaningful or relevant about this movie. I think I lost a lot of brain cells just wasting my time watching Balls of Fury. What’s really terrible about this movie is that it had a lot of talented actors like Christopher Walken and George Lopez, and this is the only thing filmmakers could come up with?

Just when you think you’re doing something healthy for yourself by quitting smoking and using an ecigarette!
A Florida man experiences a terrible sensation while smoking his e-cigarette! The ecigarette exploded, causing severe burns and damaging his teeth and a piece of his tongue! After the incident the man had to make an emergency trip to the dentist to repair the damage done to one of his teeth.
The man claims he was trying to quit smoking and he had recently switched to ecigarettes. The ecigarette makers claim there was a faulty battery and this is what caused the problem.
The battery flew out of the tube that it was encased in to power the ecigarette and it even set the closet in the mans house on fire! I personally smoke an ecigarette and hope to God nothing like that ever happens to me!
The man thanked the firefighters who came to his rescue after the incident. This took place in the man’s home, damaging carpet, chairs and pictures as well as office equipment during the fire. His friends and family rushed to his aid during the explosion and called the fire department.
Some major brands of these types of cigarettes are kangertech in the usa and the australian ecigarette, social lites. The brand of ecigarette is left unnamed in this story. I guess we will not know which one we should be staying away from!
I use these damn things all the time and I thought I was doing myself a favor by quitting smoking! Now this kind of thing happens and it makes you wonder.
So far there has been no litigation surrounding the incident, but I know I would be suing the pants off of whoever sold me that battery!
Most recent statistics show that 2.5 million Americans use electronic cigarettes! I guess if this is only happening in 1 out of 2.5 million people, ill keep using my ecigarette!
What do you think? Do you smoke an ecigarette? Do you feel safe with them?

Ladies and Gents, I wanted to write a little bit about other types of terror creating things going on in the world today. We all know about zombies and ghouls, etc. But I recently found out, via my own infected computer about how horrible it can be to get hit by a computer Virus. I was infected by cryptowall last week and it sucked!
The Cryptowall virus is a very vicious kind of malware. This very dangerous and not common computer virus gets into an operating system via email messages that are infected with it or through fake forms of downloads.
These fake forms of downloads can include Flash updates that are fake and rogue video players for example. When this malicious virus infiltrates a computer system. It can immediately encrypts files that are stored on a user’s computer. These file types are doc, docx, xls, ppt, psd, pdf, eps, al, cdr, jpg, just to name a few of them.
This rogue program will quickly demand $500 as payment in bit coins to decrypt them. The cyber criminals who were responsible for creating this program and then releasing it on to unsuspecting computers do indeed do their work. This is what they demanded I pay them!
They make sure that this assassin program does target all Windows OS systems out there, as well. This includes Windows OS systems as XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.
Cryptowall was a virus that was hard to deal with in the beginning. During the time of research, and there was no working tools or solutions to decrypt the files that were encrypted by Cryptowall, the only way to free up a computer then was to pay the ransom that was demanded by the program itself.
However, today, this has since changed and there are cryptowall removal tools that have been designed with this specific very bad threat in mind. Though the virus is not complicated to remove.
It just requires a very detailed and thorough process to get the virus cleaned. This is why it makes perfect sense to just use a high quality form of cryptowall removal tool to do the job for you.
Cryptowall virus may not be easy to get off of a computer. Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean it can’t be done, and the first tip to try to remove it is by running a full scan with the anti virus that is installed to protect your computer.
Do determine if your own anti virus can do it first. If not, then you should proceed to the second step, and this second step is to employ the help of a cryptowall virus removal tool. There are many fine ones that can do the trick.
One in particular is called Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Software. They do offer a free version of it. Therefore, do try it out, and go on from there. Another way to free up your system from Cryptowall is with the help of System Restore.
There are a lot of valid ways to get this monster virus off of your computer. So, do utilize them all, and don’t give up until your computer is totally free of this not so nice at all virus. Special Thanks to Precisesecurity.com for the details about removing cryptowall.
Zombies have taken the world by storm in an almost ironic twist to the fearful legend around which they are written. With mass media today being very aware of the zombie phenomenon, there have been many works featuring the legendary monsters, and many types of entertainment have been created to cater to the public’s love for the flesh eating beasts. But just what is a zombie and where did they come from? We will discuss today the early spread of the zombie mythos and how it spread like a virus and infected the imaginations of all who create, and consume, zombie media today.
Zombies weren’t always the flesh eating shambling monsters like the ones we see today. One of the earliest recordings of the word date back to Haitian folklore, and in those folklores a zombie is a corpse usually reanimated not by a virus or spread by a bite, but as a result of witchcraft. Once resurrected, the zombie was under the will and control of the person that brought their body back to life, and have no wills of their own. Some other tales in Haitian folklore suggest that a zombie is a person’s soul, captured by a bokor sorcerer and used to further their own energies, or sold as commodities to further someone else’s energy, or something else incorporeal such as luck.
The idea of zombies was carried over to Haiti by African slaves, who believed that if they had offended a deity of the Vodou faith, they would be cursed to forever be slaves even in the afterlife, as zombies. In fact, some believe the idea of zombies have firmly set roots in the traditions of the slave trade in Haiti. Through the years, many people believed in the Vodou zombies, and though some tried to make sense of it through psychology or chemical interference, no concrete answer was found.
It wouldn’t be until George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead that the zombies of today would be known. Interestingly enough, the word zombie wouldn’t be applied to them in the movie, but rather in the meta, when fans would call them zombies. After that, in subsequent sequels to Night, the word zombie would be used, and the contemporary definition of zombies as virus plagued, flesh eating monsters would be widespread, ironically causing people to spread the legend of the zombie, and making countless media about them continuing through today.
